Village life and wayside cross

On the main road in Obermehlen stands a wayside cross in the form of a shaft cross dating from 1850.

The monthly Frauenkaffee takes place on the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. in the community centre in Obermehlen; everyone is welcome.

Coffee, cake and open-faced sandwiches are served at the Frauenkaffee. Anyone wishing to attend can schedule the second Wednesday at 3 p.m. as a fixed appointment in their daily planning.

Mountains and ancient site in the surrounding area

The Hardt mountain, the Schwirzheimer Kopf, the Achelter and the Sattel are located in the vicinity of Obermehlen.

The ancient site of Neubaugebiet Hünert is also located nearby.

Hiking and winter sports in the Schneifel

In the Schneifel, the Moore-Pfad Schneifel circular trail begins at the hiking and winter sports car park near the “Schwarzer Mann” blockhouse.

The trail leads through the forests of the Schneifel and across the northwestern side of the Schneifel ridge through the Eschvenn to the source area of the Alfbach.

As a circular trail, the route returns to the starting point at the car park. Planning the full circuit therefore requires allowing time for both the forest sections and the route across the Schneifel ridge, Eschvenn and the source area.

In wet and swamp forests, boardwalks cross particularly sensitive areas. Among other things, bell heather and lousewort can be discovered there.

Visitors interested in nature can combine observing plants along the boardwalks with the trail through the wet and swamp forests. Observation remains confined to these sensitive forest and wetland areas.

The hiking trail network in Gondenbrett

Obermehlen belongs to the local municipality of Gondenbrett. There is an extensive, branching network of signposted hiking trails there.

The trail network includes the Schneifelpfad premium hiking trail in the North Eifel Nature Park and a section of the Way of St. James on the route from Cologne to Trier.

The route from Kronenburg to Prüm is approximately 23 kilometres long. Around 10 kilometres of it run through the Gondenbrett municipal area.

Anyone planning the stage from Kronenburg to Prüm can allow for the section within the Gondenbrett municipal area as an approximately 10-kilometre-long part of the route. The overall length of the stage indicates a longer hike.

The Moore-Pfad Schneifel is designed as a circular trail, while the route from Kronenburg to Prüm is described as an approximately 23-kilometre-long stage. As a result, returning to the starting point and route length are two distinct factors for planning.

Kasselburg Castle and Dollendorf Ruins

Kasselburg Castle and Dollendorf Ruins are located in the wider regional surroundings of Obermehlen.

Both are located farther away regionally than the Hardt mountain, the Schwirzheimer Kopf, the Achelter, the Sattel and the ancient site of Neubaugebiet Hünert.
