Reifferscheid: Hotels and Accommodation
The parish church of St. Michael in Reifferscheid was rebuilt between 1893 and 1895 according to plans by the architect Lambert von Fisenne. The lower part of the tower was preserved; the church was consecrated in 1896.
Culture and History
During the renovation from 1971 to 1973, the supporting central pillars were removed, so the old construction principle remains discernible. The resulting cross vaults appear to float above the nave. The former choir with its neo-Gothic altar was preserved as a sacrament chapel.
St. Michael brings together visible layers from three construction periods: a Gothic tower shaft, Fisenne's neo-Gothic church, and later additions in the form of side chapels. The restored original decoration is also still visible.
