The Main-Taunus district brings together the vineyards of the Upper Rheingau, the forests of the Taunus and a variety of historic sights. When choosing where to stay, you can start by considering which experiences interest you most: views and trails, historic sites, or gardens and exhibitions. The attractions vary considerably—from a tower with a sweeping panorama to museums, a castle and a rose garden.

Views and Trails

The Flörsheim Regional Park offers opportunities for family outings, walks and bike rides. From the observation tower there, you can see far across the surrounding area. The Flörsheim Warte combines a viewpoint with history: the watchtower dates back to the 15th century and recalls the Kastel Landwehr. The Warte is also a destination for hikers and cyclists. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

The Meisterturm in Hofheim also offers sweeping views, in this case across the Rhine-Main region. Its observation platform is 35 metres high. The Kaisertempel on the Staufen offers a different perspective: from there, you can see Eppstein’s old town, the castle ruins and the hills of the Vorder Taunus. These viewpoints differ in what they bring into view—on the one hand, a broad panorama; on the other, named places and landscape features.

History and Culture in Different Places

Eppstein Castle has more than a thousand years of history. Its walls and grounds, along with the castle museum, show how people lived and defended themselves in the region. In Hofheim, the town museum adds to the picture of the town’s history with a permanent exhibition on art and archaeology. The winding lanes and historic houses shape the character of Hofheim’s old town, where cafés invite you to take a break.

Other buildings make their own mark: St. Peter and Paul Church in Hochheim am Main is a landmark featuring Baroque elements and frescoes. The Hundertwasser House in Bad Soden stands out for its colourful façade and tower, which is around 30 metres high. Bad Soden’s Old Spa Park dates back to 1823 and combines English garden design with venerable old trees. The Bonifatius Chapel in Kriftel lies on the approximately 180-kilometre Bonifatius Route from Mainz to Fulda.

Art exhibitions, concerts and readings take place at the historic Zauberberg complex in Kelkheim. As programme details may change, it is advisable to check dates before your visit. This makes it easier to plan a stay around the cultural events currently on offer.

Gardens and Nature Topics

More than 6,500 roses grow in Hattersheim’s Rosarium, which also features a rose pyramid entwined with climbing roses. Those more interested in nature and environmental topics can find nature and environmental education, as well as advice, at the Weilbacher Kiesgruben Nature Conservation Centre, which has been operating since 1991. The visitor centre at Weilbacher Kiesgruben features exhibitions about nature conservation and the development of the region. The two facilities offer different approaches: one focuses on education and advice, while the other explores these topics through exhibitions.

Planning Your Visit

The European Bahá’í House of Worship in Hofheim-Langenhain is open to everyone. It is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from 1 April to 31 October, and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from 1 November to 31 March. The opening hours listed as of 8 September 2026 may change; check them before your visit.

To choose suitable places to visit, use your interests as a guide: viewpoints offer different panoramas; museums and the castle offer different ways to explore art, archaeology and history; and the rose garden and nature conservation facilities each have their own focus. If you are planning a hike or bike ride, take local trail conditions into account. For events at Zauberberg, be sure to check the latest programme details as well.
