The pilgrimage church in Neukirchen am Simssee is a sight in Riedering and houses the devotional image “Maria Stern”. It is also known by its full name, “Maria Stern und St. Johann-Baptist”, and is a branch church and pilgrimage church. Its sacred character and devotional image give this place a tangible connection to the municipality’s religious history.

The “Südufer des Simssees” nature reserve has been located on the southern shore of Lake Simssee since 1993. It adds a specifically designated protected area to the municipality’s nature themes. The bathing area at Seewirt in Ecking on Lake Simssee has a children’s beach; the district is responsible for matters relating to the bathing area.

Local stations and leisure activities

The geology station in Moosen illustrates the history of the formation of Lake Simssee and the landscape in and around Riedering, using impressive erratic boulders from different eras. The “Fische im Simssee” station in Ecking offers a different perspective: a rotating cylinder depicts bream, carp, pike, whitefish and zander. In Obermühl, at the Wagenstaller organic food mill, the “Energie” station teaches the topic of energy conversion in a playful way, with a water feature and explanatory panels. The snack garden links cultivated fruit with the theme of snacking. The two stations therefore focus on different topics from the geological and natural history displays: energy conversion in one, cultivated fruit in the other.

The Patting-Hochriesblick golf course also has a special feature: its 9-hole reversible course can be played in both directions. “Reversible” describes the direction of play on the nine-hole course. Along with hiking and cycling trails, the viewpoint and bathing area, this gives an overview of different leisure activities without presenting them as a single, unified offer.
