Cycling Routes and Pilgrimage Route

The Danube Cycle Path follows the Danube through the municipality to the Austrian border at Jochenstein. The Danube–Vltava Cycle Path runs from Obernzell via Untergriesbach to Haidmühle. When choosing a route, you can therefore choose between following the Danube as far as Jochenstein and taking the route via Untergriesbach towards Haidmühle. Another option on foot is the Way of St. James from Český Krumlov to Kufstein: it passes through Untergriesbach, where long-distance hikers can join the pilgrimage route. The cycling routes and pilgrimage route thus offer different ways to plan your journey according to your preferred mode of travel.

Hiking and Landscape

The Donauleiten Nature Reserve and the high plateaus around Untergriesbach offer opportunities for walks and hikes. These two landscapes provide points of reference for outings on foot. At 846 m, KĂĽhberg near SteinbĂĽchl/KĂĽhberg is the highest mountain in the municipality. Another natural highlight awaiting visitors to Untergriesbach is the Danube panoramic viewpoint at Ebenstein. KĂĽhberg thus offers a specific elevation to aim for, while Ebenstein is known for its panoramic view of the Danube.

Town Center and Leisure

The late Gothic parish church of St. Michael is part of Untergriesbach’s protected market square ensemble. The church’s late Gothic classification and its place in the ensemble are both important to the cultural character of the town center. It can be seen as part of the protected market square setting.

In September 2020, Ski-Club Jochenstein e.V. opened a BIKE PARK in Untergriesbach, next to the WĂĽrmchen playground and the tennis courts. The facility includes a pump track, a rock garden, and an area with ramps and seesaws. The BIKE PARK complements the cycling routes with a dedicated cycling facility. Check local conditions before visiting.

Cross-Country Skiing and Nearby Destinations

In the district of Gottsdorf, a cross-country ski trail starts at the sports field. One section is usually groomed for skating; grooming depends on the weather and conditions. If skating is important for your visit, check local conditions in advance. When planning, bear in mind that grooming is usually intended for this section but depends on the conditions.
