Eging a.See: Lake, Walking Trails and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Eging Am See
Eging a.See offers a variety of ways to spend your stay by the lake, on foot or by bike. The “Spurensuche” themed walking trail runs through mixed forest and partly along the lakeside promenade; Lake Eging offers swimming and exercise facilities. The Danube-Ilz Cycle Path also runs through the town along a former railway line. Your planned activities and how much you intend to do can help you choose suitable accommodation.

Walking between lake and forest
The “Spurensuche” themed walking trail is 3.5 km long and forms a loop. Its 20 informative stations follow forest and field paths and partly the lakeside promenade through a species-rich mixed forest. At around 8.5 km, a second walking route around Lake Eging is considerably longer. Two walking trails run directly around the lake and offer views of the neighbouring Bavarian Forest.
There are plenty of options beyond the loops around the lake: Eging and its surroundings have a total of ten walking trails, ranging from just under 3 km to over 18 km. The trails suit beginners and experienced hikers alike. Their different lengths offer a practical basis for comparing options when planning your own route, without implying a specific walking time.
At Lake Eging: swimming and exercise
Lake Eging has a long sandy beach, a bathing jetty, a swimming island and a sunbathing lawn. You can also play beach volleyball there. Swimming is subject to the season and weather; take these conditions into account when planning a visit to the water.
For younger children, the lake has a heated granite water play area with three paddling and activity pools at different levels. Water slides connect the pools. Alongside the lake and sunbathing areas, these tiered pools provide a separate option. Pedal boats and stand-up paddleboards can also be rented at Lake Eging. Check local operating information about rentals before your visit.
Cycling and exercise in the spa park
The approximately 45 km-long Danube-Ilz Cycle Path runs through Eging a.See along a former railway line. Its overall length makes it a different kind of route from the walking trails around the lake. If you are planning a cycle ride, check current path conditions in advance.
Another way to get active is the fitalPARC in Eging’s spa park. The slightly elevated trail has six platforms with strength-training equipment, connected by five long coordination sections. The facility adds a combination of strength and coordination elements to the range of activities. This means that local activities differ not only in route length but also in type: walking routes pass through the landscape, while the fitalPARC brings its stations together along a trail.
Culture in the wider Passau destination
The Bavarian Forest Museum Village in Tittling offers another regional cultural attraction in the wider Passau destination. It is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe. Across 20 hectares, visitors can explore more than 100 residential and agricultural buildings from the Bavarian Forest dating from 1580 to 1890. The museum village includes farmhouses, mills, sawmills, smithies, chapels and field monuments. Germany’s oldest primary school, dating from 1666, is also located there. The museum therefore adds a cultural highlight to the Passau destination, separate from the activities at Lake Eging and the trails in Eging a.See.
