Altusried combines a winter cross-country skiing option with cycling and hiking routes, as well as cultural attractions. You can decide first whether to focus on winter activities, a bike ride or a cultural destination.

Cross-country skiing and routes
In winter, cross-country ski trails are groomed in Altusried when snow conditions are good. Various circuits can be skied over a total of around 26 kilometres. Grooming is therefore a seasonal option and depends on suitable snow conditions. Check the current situation before your trip if cross-country skiing is important to your plans.
Altusried offers scenic cycling tours and a well-developed network of cycle paths. Continuous cycle routes lead from Frauenzell in the west through Altusried to the city of Kempten; the final sections of the cycle network were completed in 2018. The route provides a specific guide when choosing a bike ride through the area.
Two named walking routes also pass through Altusried: the Oberallgäu Circular Hiking Trail and the Way of St. James Pilgrim Route. The types of route differ in their names: a circular hiking trail and a pilgrimage route. If you are planning a trip on foot, you can take this distinction into account.
Open-air theatre, outdoor pool and Frauenzell
The Allgäu Open-Air Theatre presents open-air plays, musicals and fairy tales on a three-year cycle; operas, operettas and concerts also take place in between. Individual productions vary, so check the event schedule for your stay. The theatre is just below the village of Im Tal, directly next to the outdoor pool. A heated outdoor pool is part of the local leisure facilities; check the current opening hours before visiting.
The parish church of the Assumption of Mary, dating from the early 18th century, stands in the Altusried district of Frauenzell. The Raritäten-Kästle village museum displays more than 500 historical objects, most of them from the region. Visitor information lists Sunday visits from May to September; check in advance whether a visit is currently possible. The church and museum offer different reasons to include Frauenzell in your travel plans: the history of a church building and a collection of historical objects, mostly from the region.
More destinations in the Oberallgäu
In Oberstdorf, in the Oberallgäu, you’ll find the Nordic Centre Oberstdorf/Allgäu. Its World Championship trail network comprises more than 30 different route variations, including a 6.25-kilometre loop with the steep Burgstall climb. This trail information refers to Oberstdorf. The town also has 200 kilometres of hiking trails and nature trails. The Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill is open to visitors; the tower lift takes visitors to the viewing platform on the ski jump tower.
The Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Centre in Immenstadt-Bühl is located directly on Lake Alpsee. Its free-to-access interactive exhibition explores animals, plants, their habitats and the special features of the protected area. The Allgäu Mountain Farming Museum in Immenstadt-Diepolz is an interactive open-air museum in historic buildings that documents the lives of Allgäu mountain farmers. The museum’s opening hours are seasonal; check the dates before making a visit a firm part of your plans.
