Alpsee circular trail and getting to Bühl

The Alpsee circular trail is a moderately difficult loop around the Großer Alpsee, 10.94 kilometres long. It starts and ends at the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Centre in Bühl. Its length and difficulty rating give you two specific points to consider when planning your day. In Bühl by the Alpsee, the landscape park also features an explorers’ pond that you can cross on a raft. This is a separate local attraction, not part of the description of the circular trail.

To get to the Nature Park Centre, you can take the train to Immenstadt station and then take bus route 39 or 11 towards Oberstaufen to the “Bühl, Naturparkzentrum” stop. Check the timetable before travelling, as public transport schedules can change. This lets you take the journey to the starting point into account when planning, without confusing the bus ride with the circular trail: the bus routes take you to the stop, while the trail starts and ends at the Nature Park Centre.

Trails, views and outdoor activities

On the route over the Immenstädter Horn, the trail passes through natural mountain forests and species-rich alpine pastures; there are numerous waterfalls, both large and small, along the way. This offers different scenery from the loop around the Großer Alpsee. A specific comparison of the two options can be based on the features mentioned: forests, pastures and waterfalls here, and a circular route around the lake with a stated length and difficulty rating there.

At the Mittagberg, the Panorma Kletterpark offers climbing fun on three levels and panoramic views of the royal town of Immenstadt and the Großer Alpsee. Nearby, between Immenstadt and Oberstaufen, the Kletterwald Bärenfalle is located right in the Alpsee Bergwelt. Its Kiddy course is intended for children aged three and up. Bärenfalle is a nearby attraction between Immenstadt and Oberstaufen, while the Panorma Kletterpark is located on the Mittagberg in Immenstadt. In terms of features, the Panorma Kletterpark’s three levels and views contrast with the Kiddy course’s age requirement.

Museums and experiences in Immenstadt and Diepolz

The Hofmühle Museum is a regional museum focusing on the Upper Allgäu, with 1,000 square metres of exhibition space. The MuseoApp Immenstadt offers a different way to explore culture through an augmented reality experience in the royal town of Immenstadt and around the Hofmühle Museum and the mountain farmers’ museum in Diepolz. A museum visit and a digital experience featuring several of the places mentioned are therefore two different options.

The Kuhnigundenweg leads to the Allgäu Mountain Farmers’ Museum in Diepolz. There, you can walk through a life-size cow’s stomach and churn butter yourself. This keeps your plans focused on the specific activities, rather than treating the route to the museum as the same thing as what is on offer there.

Events throughout the year

The traditional Immenstadt Christkindlesmarkt is held every year on the first weekend of Advent in Marienplatz and Klosterplatz. It features arts and crafts, Christmas treats and musical entertainment. The Immenstadt Viehscheid takes place every year on the third Saturday in September and is accompanied by a party in a festival tent.
