History

Weitnau has documented medieval roots: the first reliable mention dates from 1250. In the 13th century, the town held market rights and was the administrative seat of the Lordship of Hohenegg.

Geographical Location

Weitnau formerly had a railway connection on the Kempten–Isny line; the line is now closed. Isny, Immenstadt im Allgäu, and Oberstaufen are nearby.
