Buildings and City Museum
The Bayertor in Landsberg am Lech has stood since 1425 and is one of Bavaria’s most beautiful Gothic buildings. The Mutterturm offers a different perspective on architectural history: Herkomer had this extraordinary monument of historicism built in honor of his mother. Landsberg thus brings together a range of architectural and historical themes—a Gothic building and a monument whose creation is linked to Herkomer’s dedication.
The Landsberg am Lech City Museum explores the city’s history and connects it with questions of the present. It is an open, lively place on Leitenberg. From there, it offers one of the most beautiful views of the city. The City Museum therefore brings together two perspectives: an exploration of historical developments and a view of Landsberg as a whole.
Old Town Tours and Their Themes
Guided city tours take visitors through the old town and tell the story of its eventful past. Lechpark and Lake Ammersee
Lechpark Pössinger Au is the city’s main local recreation area. There is a water playground for young children. For older children, there is a Kneipp pool with a barefoot path and a pavilion. Lake Ammersee lies entirely within the Landsberg am Lech district. It is Bavaria’s third-largest lake, after Lake Chiemsee and Lake Starnberg, and is located in the Bavarian Alpine foothills.
