Chapels and Architectural History in Fuchstal

In Asch stands the Maria im Stock pilgrimage chapel, built by Freyberg in 1703. In Leeder, at the southern edge of the village, is the St. Ulrich wayside chapel. It contains an oversized painting of Saint Ulrich by Johann Baptist Baader. The chapel’s role as a place of pilgrimage defines it in Asch; in Leeder, the oversized painting of Saint Ulrich takes center stage.

The Catholic parish church of the Annunciation of Mary in Leeder also offers a precisely dated glimpse into architectural history. The nave and choir were rebuilt from 1739 onward; the church received its original furnishings between 1742 and 1752. The Marian column stands in the center of Leeder, at the junction leading to Kirchberg. Its stone depiction of the Immaculate Virgin Mary dates from 1889 and is probably the fifth successor to earlier wooden statues. The church building and its original furnishings date from the 18th century; the stone depiction of the Immaculate Virgin Mary dates from the 19th century.

At the western entrance to Seestall, Canon Johannes Schrott had a monument erected in 1900 in honor of King Ludwig I of Bavaria.

Memorial Site and Local History

East of Seestall, a memorial stone erected in 1950 on the banks of the Lech commemorates the Seestall subcamp of Kaufering concentration camp. The prisoners from Seestall camp who died by 1945 are buried at this site.

Markets and Routes

Leeder’s markets continue a tradition that dates back to the 17th century. The spring market takes place on the first Sunday in May, and the autumn market on the second Sunday in October; both are held on Hauptstraße in Leeder. If you plan your stay around a market date, check the latest dates before setting off.

The Forests and Ponds Tour starts at the sports grounds between Asch and Leeder, follows the Via Claudia cycle path north and leads into the district of Asch. Further along, in the surrounding region, the route is mostly flat, passing ponds and following shaded paths through the largest contiguous woodland in the district of Landsberg am Lech. Check the signs and trail conditions on site, as they may change.

Landscape of Ponds and Snack Garden

The Weldener Weiher pond chain is a protected landscape and was created about 300 years ago for fish farming. Its valley, with mixed forests and green spaces, offers opportunities for peaceful recreation.

In March 2023, more than 130 edible wild plants, trees, shrubs and berry bushes were planted on two adjoining triangular plots in the snack garden in Asch.

Additional Culture in the Broader Travel Destination of Landsberg Am Lech

The broader travel destination of Landsberg Am Lech offers further themes relating to architecture and urban history. The Bayertor in Landsberg am Lech has stood since 1425 and is considered one of Bavaria’s finest Gothic buildings. Herkomer had the Mutterturm built in honor of his mother; it is considered an exceptional monument of historicism. City tours through the old town explore, among other topics, the history of dukes and prince-electors, the salt trade, raftsmen, dyers and tanners, as well as Jesuits and Ursulines. These topics provide additional regional context and are distinct from the places described in Fuchstal.
