Neukirchen beim Heiligen Blut is considered a pilgrimage site in the Bavarian Forest. As a market town in the Bavarian Upper Palatinate, it is located in the district of Cham at an elevation of 485 metres above sea level and in the Hohenbogenwinkel area between Eschlkam and Lam on the Czech border.

Neukirchen beim Heiligen Blut is associated with a fortified church complex. Its defensive structures were developed in connection with historical conflicts between Bavaria and Bohemia.
Neukirchen was first documented in 1301. In 1377, Duke Albrecht of Bavaria granted the town market rights.
