Winter and Mountain Landscape
The Col de l'Échelle is located at an altitude of 1,762 meters. It connects the Clarée Valley with Italy and is the route to the Vallée Étroite. In winter, the pass is used by cross-country skiers.
The Haute vallée de la Clarée has been designated a Natura 2000 site since 2010. It can be reached from Névache without difficulty. Ibex, chamois, and marmots live in the Cerces Massif.
Culture
In the hamlet of Plampinet, the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Grâces dates from the 15th century. It contains well-preserved wall frescoes and has been listed as a historic monument since 1928. The oldest wall paintings in the chapel date from 1450. Visitors can access it as part of guided tours or by prior reservation.
The Church of Saint-Sébastien in Plampinet was built in 1510 in the Romanesque style and has been listed as a historic monument since 1991. Inside, it preserves 20 wall paintings from the 16th century that depict the Passion of Christ chronologically. This church can also be accessed as part of guided tours or by prior reservation.
There are around 30 painted sundials on the façades of houses in the Clarée Valley. Some of them can be viewed between La Vachette and Névache-Ville-Haute.
