Serres: Hotels and accommodation

Serres is located in the Parc naturel régional des Baronnies provençales and the Buëch Valley. The medieval village stands on the Pignolette rock and overlooks this valley.

History

The Méridienne de Serres is a sundial dating from 1882 on the southern façade of the primary school. It is the only known sundial of its kind in the Hautes-Alpes and was listed as a historic monument in 1996.

The Maison du Connétable Lesdiguières is a restored Renaissance building with a polychrome plaster-stucco façade. The building can be visited free of charge and independently every day throughout the year.

The Église paroissiale de Saint-Arey is a church in the Provençal Romanesque style; its origins date back to the 7th or 9th century.

Culture

The Musée auto-moto l’Estanco presents a collection on the history of transportation, historic tools, and objects from the two world wars. The museum offers individual guided tours by prior arrangement.

Hang’Art has several permanent exhibition and sales spaces for artists, craftspeople, and producers. Visitors can sample coffee roasted in the Hautes-Alpes and buy regional products there.

Nature

The Sentier des Moines starts in Serres and is a 6-kilometre circular hike offering views over the entire Buëch Valley. Serres has vaulted passageways (“soustets”), which bear witness to the village’s rich historical heritage.

The Lacs de la Germanette are a 15-hectare leisure area near Serres with a supervised swimming area. The water sports area is separate from the swimming area and includes the rental of pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards, and canoes.

The Table d’orientation de Serres offers views of the panorama and the surrounding peaks from the heights beside the Chapelle Bonsecours.
