The Montagnes orientales d’Ax-les-Thermes area, which includes Tignac, is important for the protection of capercaillie and rock ptarmigan populations. It is protected under the 1930 law as well as the European Birds and Habitats Directives.

Hiking

The La Corniche hiking trail passes through Tignac and then descends towards Unac. Along its route, it leads hikers to Tignac’s renovated and officially inaugurated village church, and then onto a path through former cultivated terraces.

The sunny hillside between Tignac and Unac is noted for its landscape of dry-stone walls. In addition, the Balad’ & Train circular routes follow former paths between the villages and provide access to rural features such as fountains, washhouses, cultivated terraces, mills and Romanesque churches.

The regional hiking trails can be combined with train journeys; the stations at Les Cabannes, Luzenac and Ax-les-Thermes can be used to return to the starting point.

Culture
