Culture and history

The Ancienne chapelle Saint-Pierre features a Romanesque portal with a rarely depicted bas-relief of Saint Peter. It was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 19 March 1979.

The Musée des Montreurs d’Ours in Ercé invites visitors to discover rare objects, books, moving testimonies, travel reports, unpublished documents, as well as videos and films. A school for bear handlers was also established in Ercé, described by the municipality as the only one of its kind in France.

In the wider region around Ercé lies the Château de Foix, a castle. The Archives départementales de l’Ariège, an archive, are also located there.

Nature and trails

There are picnic tables at the Plan d’eau d’Escalusse. The Rocher du Calvaire encompasses a geological area.

Along the Chemin des plantes qui soignent, information panels describe plants used for their medicinal and aromatic properties; the panels were created with the support of women from the village. The trail is rated easy and has an estimated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes.

In Ercé, you can take loop routes by road bike or mountain bike. The Tuc de la Coume summit is nearby. The Pic du Douill, Pic de Barrès and Pic de Girantès summits are also located around Ercé.

Transport

With a single ticket, you can transfer between the TAD and intercity bus lines at no extra charge.
