Accommodation in Aude
Aude stretches from the foothills of the Pyrenees to Mediterranean lagoons. Anyone looking to find a hotel in Aude has their own travel purpose in mind.
Nature
In the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park, the landscape changes within 10 kilometres from Mediterranean lagoons to the Corbières Massif. On the Leucate Plateau, dry grasslands, garrigue, woodland, cliffs and a floating dune come together. These different habitats contribute to Mediterranean wildlife and flora. The protected natural areas in Aude also preserve biodiversity while remaining open to the public.
The department's natural environments range from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the lagoons on the Mediterranean coast. Guided nature excursions and accompanied walks focusing on biodiversity are offered year-round.
Activities
At the Maison de la Narbonnaise, visitors can use a network of nature trails and birdwatching sites in wetlands. Narbonne's Maison de la Narbonnaise also has three paths through saltwater wetlands that can be walked year-round. The nature trail in Narbonne is 3.5 kilometres long and follows a section of a lagoon shore.
The Clape Massif offers mountain biking trails with panoramic views over the Mediterranean and the lagoons. In Gruissan, the mountain biking area covers 110 kilometres and includes six routes, ranging from very easy to very difficult.
The La Palme lagoon offers opportunities for kitesurfing and windsurfing due to its exposure to the wind and shallow water. From the canoe base in Puichéric, visitors can kayak on lagoons or on a calmer section of the Aude.
Geographical Setting
The Aude section of the Canal du Midi stretches for 36.6 kilometres between Moussan and Port-la-Nouvelle and includes part of the Canal de la Robine. Alongside lagoons, wetlands and coastal landscapes, the department's geographical character therefore also includes a waterscape shaped by canals.
