Nature
The Massif de Madres reaches an altitude of 2,469 m and is designated as a Natura 2000 site.
Hiking
The summit of the Massif de Madres is accessible to any cautious and experienced hiker and offers a 360° panoramic view.
La Pastorale is an 8.5 km circular hike with 300 m of ascent, a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes, and a moderate level of difficulty.
A marked trail makes it possible to discover part of the Canal d’Escouloubre. The section of the Canal d’Escouloubre that is still preserved today, over almost 10 km, continues to be used to irrigate agricultural land.
Culture
The Château d’Escouloubre was built between the 10th and 11th centuries and was one of the fortified towers that guarded the banks of the Aude.
Escouloubre has two permanent nature exhibitions featuring botanical illustrations and wooden sculptures.
Cave
The Grotte de l’Aguzou is a classified and protected cave. It can be visited in small groups as a full-day or half-day tour.
The Grotte de l’Aguzou is open year-round by prior reservation; each visit is limited to a maximum of one group of up to six people.
