Nature

The Source de la Saine rises from a limestone basin with folded rock layers, fault lines and distinctive vegetation clinging to the rock.

The Belvédère du Bulay can be reached on foot from the village; alternatively, you can park at the foot of the rock and climb an approximately 300-metre-long staircase to the summit. The viewpoint offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Jura range, the green Saine Valley and the Combe d’Entre Côtes du Milieu; on clear days, Mont Poupet and Mont Blanc can also be seen.

The Tourbière de l’Entre Côtes du Milieu is a sensitive natural area and is classified as a Natura 2000 site.

Hiking and Trails

The hiking route to the Source de la Saine starts in front of the Foncine-le-Haut tourist office at number 60; parking is available there or nearby. The route is 11.5 kilometres long, classified as difficult and takes approximately three hours.

The ForĂŞt du Paradis is suitable for hiking in the forest. The ForĂŞt du Paradis also contains a protected biotope area.

The Espace trail Champagnole Nozeroy Jura comprises four trail-running routes starting in Foncine-le-Haut. They range from 400 metres to 22 kilometres and partly follow the trails of the Val Foncine Trail.

Culture and Gastronomy

The Fromagerie des Rebelles is a Comté cheese dairy in Foncine-le-Haut and a cooperative fruitière that visitors can tour with explanations from its members.

The Chemin de croix de Foncine-le-Haut leads via approximately fifteen metal crosses to a viewpoint overlooking Foncine-le-Haut.

The Rucher du Bayard offers guided tours and tastings throughout the summer.
