Culture and History

The Route Royale, also known as the Route du Sel, connected Saint-Claude with Geneva via Mijoux and Gex. It was built in 1742 and replaced at the beginning of the 20th century by the present-day road between Lajoux and Col de la Faucille.

The Maison du Parc in Lajoux is home to the Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura and provides visitors with information, a shop and a permanent exhibition. The permanent exhibition “Haut-Jura, terre vivante!” presents playful, sensory and interactive installations. Gastronomy

The Fromagerie de Lajoux processes milk from around six farms into Bleu de Gex Haut-Jura, Morbier and Raclette. It also sells cheese made on site and regional products directly from the premises.
