The church of La Chenalotte was built from 1624 to 1630 and founded by Jeanne Blessemaille in honour of Saint Urbain.

Culture

The picturesque village centre of La Chenalotte includes old Comtois farmhouses. The Tacot railway line was closed on 1 April 1952; the station at Clos de la Vie remains the last surviving evidence of the Tacot railway line, which connected Morteau and Trévillers from 1905 to 1952.

Since June 2007, the municipality of La Chenalotte in the canton of Cornaix has had a Sapin-Président. It is often marked on maps or walking routes and is considered a popular destination for walks. The bell-tower porch of the Church of Saint-Claude in La Chenalotte houses two bells.

Nature

The small stream “Les Belles Seignes” runs through La Chenalotte. Four nationally protected butterfly species associated with peat bogs have been recorded in the peat bogs of Bélieu, Noël-Cerneux, Le Bizot, La Chenalotte and Narbief.

Hiking and cycling

A hiking trail from La Chenalotte reaches the Saut du Doubs in around two hours. The Bief Noir route is a 3-hour-30-minute loop covering 11.6 kilometres; the Bief Noir loop starts and ends at the church in La Chenalotte.

Several signposted routes also pass through the village. The Les Belles Seignes mountain biking route No. 51A runs through La Chenalotte. The Grande Traversée du Jura Cyclo is a cycling route entirely on roads that also passes through La Chenalotte.
