Culture and History

The MÉM / Musée des peintres de l'École de Murol presents works by around one hundred post-impressionist artists who came together in Murol during the first half of the 20th century.

The Eglise Saint-Ferréol in Murol contains nine large murals, each measuring 12 m², depicting episodes from the New Testament. The church also has stained-glass windows by Félix Gaudin dating from around 1900.

Roche-Romaine is a moderately difficult, 10.5-kilometre circular hike from Murol lasting approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes. The route shows a lava flow at Puy de Bessolles and offers views of Puy de Dôme, Sancy and Cézallier.

The hiking trail at Volcan du Tartaret from Murol is an out-and-back route taking approximately 45 minutes. The orienteering course at Volcan du Tartaret is easy, includes 10 checkpoints and covers 4.5 kilometres with 210 metres of elevation gain; it takes approximately two hours.

Parc du Prélong is a botanically diverse park covering 3.4 hectares, with around 700 recorded trees.

The activities offered by Auvergne Escapade focus on fauna, flora, landscape appreciation, volcanism and the mountain environment.

Cycling

The Voie Verte du Lac Chambon is 4.5 kilometres long and suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and pushchairs.

The cycling route to Col de la Croix-Saint-Robert begins at the Murol tourist office at an altitude of 785 metres and covers 13.5 kilometres with 623 metres of elevation gain to the summit.

Near Lac Chambon, the cycling loop «Circuit du Cézallier – Autour du massif du Sancy» leads away from Murol.
