From the La Roche des Fées viewpoint at an altitude of 930 m, you can look out over La Bourboule in the Dordogne Valley. The town is overlooked by the Banne d’Ordanche, the Tenon and the Puy Gros.

The GR® 30 begins between Le Mont-Dore and La Bourboule and can be accessed from the former SNCF stations in La Bourboule or Le Mont-Dore. From the centre of La Bourboule, the Plateau de Charlannes can be reached via the La Bonsière trail in around 1 hour and 15 minutes; the route is approximately 3 km long and has an elevation gain of 275 m. Trails of around 5 km connect the Plateau de Charlannes with La Stèle and provide access to further hiking routes.

The La Bourboule area of Espace Sancy VTT-FFC offers mountain bike circuits of varying difficulty through woodland. A hike from La Bourboule passes through lush surroundings along the Dordogne and in the Massif du Sancy, leading to Belle Époque architecture, the Plateau de Charlannes, and a panorama over the Dordogne Valley and La Bourboule.

The mountains Bois de Charlannes, Puy de Lachaud, Le Tenon and Bois de la Roche are located in the immediate vicinity of La Bourboule.

Culture

A free, self-guided route focusing on the spa architecture and Belle Époque of La Bourboule is available on the back of the town map provided at the tourist office. The guided tour “La Bourboule, reine de l'arsenic” explores the springs and spa facilities of the resort.

The wellness area at the Grands Thermes de La Bourboule offers two balneotherapy packages using thermal water. Minéralexpo displays antique scientific instruments, minerals, fossils, precious stones, jewellery, mining artefacts, curiosities and handicrafts in La Bourboule; some of these items are also offered for sale.

The wider regional area around La Bourboule is home to the historic site of Abbaye de la Vassin, the Abbaye de l'Esclache monastery, Château de Val and the ancient Temple of Mercurius site.
