Ježená is a built-up settlement situated in the valley of the Maršovský potok stream. The buildings extend along both banks, while the valley slopes form the natural setting of the village. In Ježená, a clearly defined settlement, traces of history and paths through the surrounding area come together.

Nature and Settlement

A protected linden tree stands in the northern part of Ježená. There is also a retention basin on the village square. Together with the location on the Maršovský potok stream, these elements shape the immediate structure of the village.

Trails

A yellow-marked hiking trail from Čeřínek to Větrný Jeníkov runs through Ježená. Another hiking route led from Ježená via the medieval mining site of Rounek to Rantířov.

History and Historic Buildings

Ježená originated around the end of the 12th century as a forest settlement with a village square on both sides of the Jezina stream. The first written mention dates from 1226, when Ježená was confirmed as one of the villages owned by Želiv Monastery. The originally Czech village was settled by German colonists in the 13th century during the silver rush.

The Baroque Chapel of St. James has stood on the village square since 1775. The four-sided building features a small bell turret on a pyramidal roof; the current bell dates from 1922.

The history of the village also includes the Hukauf Mill at House No. 4. It was the middle of Ježená’s three former mills and has been documented since the 16th century. The former Hukauf Mill has now been converted for residential use.
