Bílý Kámen: Hotels and Accommodation
Accommodation in Bílý Kámen
The free-standing Chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul dates from the 18th century and is regarded as the symbol and dominant feature of Bílý Kámen. Its square floor plan, hipped roof and small four-sided bell tower give it a clearly recognisable form.
Culture
During the restoration phase completed in 2023, the chapel’s original, richly decorated interior paintings were uncovered, fixed, fully retouched and reconstructed in their original form. In front of the eastern façade stands an approximately rectangular memorial stone with a smoothed front face and an engraved ornamental frame. The year 1754 on the stone probably refers to the surveying of the newly established village.
East of Bílý Kámen, on the road to Jihlava, a medieval atonement cross with bevelled beam edges stands by the roadside between Bílý Kámen and Vyskytná. A relief of an engraved crossbow bolt is mounted on both its front and rear sides.
History
The Bílý Kámen mining site represents an initial mining phase dating approximately to the second half of the 13th century, involving so-called mining “to the surface”. A 225-metre-long ore vein was followed using a single line of shafts. Twenty-seven shafts or mining pits have survived, with a diameter of approximately 10 metres and a depth of up to 5 metres.
Older traces of roads and paths also form part of the historical surroundings: the historic Humpolecká cesta between Humpolec and Jihlava ran through Bílý Kámen. In the forest section between Větrný Jeníkov and Bílý Kámen, earth remains of older paths have survived in the form of hollow ways and groups of hollow ways; they may be connected with historical mining.
