Pelechy: Hotels and Accommodations

Field and forest roads in Pelechy are primarily intended for shared use in landscape management and recreation by pedestrians and cyclists. Existing cycling routes and marked hiking trails of the KČT are also designated for the municipality.

Nature

Spálený vrch is located in the vicinity of Pelechy. Čerchov, Dreiwappen, and Dachsriegel are also located in the surrounding area. The Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg wildlife park is situated in the wider regional surroundings of Pelechy.

History and Village Character

Pelechy was established between 1768 and 1789 in the Kout estate. Historical evidence for the place name dates from 1789, 1854, and 1895 and records the forms Pelechny, Pelechen, and Bernloch. The history of the village also includes the neighboring settlement of Šnory, formerly called Kohlstäten in German, which was depopulated and disappeared after the end of the Second World War in 1945.

The former elementary school building, together with mighty lime trees, is an important landmark and cultural monument of Pelechy. The historical German name Bernloch is explained as “Pelech,” “cave,” or “animal den”; in the case of Pelechy, the name probably referred to a remote municipality hidden in the forests. Háječek, which teacher Černý planted together with his pupils after the war, is considered an adornment of Pelechy.

Cultural Attractions in the Surrounding Area

The chapel southwest of Pelechy is designated as an architecturally valuable structure. In the wider regional surroundings is the Chammünster Church, the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
