History and Remembrance
The first written mention of Bystrovany dates from 1277. At that time, the village belonged to Hradisko Monastery in Olomouc. In the middle of the village square stands the Chapel of Saint Bartholomew, dating from 1887. In front of it is a stone cross that was consecrated in the same year. The chapel had already been consecrated before this ceremony.
Memorial ceremonies commemorating fallen American airmen are held regularly at the cross in May and December. On December 18, 1944, seven American airmen were killed near the cross when a Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress, attacked by German fighter aircraft, crashed.
