Zálesní Lhota lies along the Dolní Kalná–Zálesní Lhota–Horní Kalná cross-country skiing route. The route leads from Dolní Kalná to Zálesní Lhota and onward in the direction of Branná or Horní Kalná.

Geographical setting

The Lhotský potok stream flows through Zálesní Lhota. The village lies on the slopes of Stráž, a 630-meter-high melaphyre mountain in the foothills of the Krkonoše. The valley of the Lhotecký potok was connected with the livestock farming of the settlement’s first inhabitants.

History

Zálesní Lhota was first mentioned in 1403. Zálesní Lhota (Huttendorf) was established in the 15th century as part of the German colonization of the border regions. In the Early Middle Ages, Mount Stráž was a watch mountain on an overland trade route and is mentioned in 11th-century chronicles under the Latin name Custodius. The first inhabitants searched for silver on the slopes of Strážník.

Culture

The neo-Gothic Church of St. John of Nepomuk was built from 1881 to 1884 on the site of an older wooden church dating from 1595. Its interior features original sandstone ribs with richly decorated capitals and rosettes. A church service is held regularly in the church on Sundays at 11:00 a.m.

The cross-country skier Květa Jeriová-Pecková was born in Zálesní Lhota on October 10, 1956, and was a three-time Olympic medalist. The actor and composer Jiří Šlitr came from Zálesní Lhota. The fire brigade in Zálesní Lhota organizes the Josefovský bál.
