Among the notable destinations in Buřany is Janatův mlýn, an exceptionally well-preserved example of timbered folk architecture and one of the national cultural monuments in the Liberec Region. The complex is situated in an enclosed valley of the Františkovský stream between the settlements of Františkov and Buřany in the Krkonoš Mountains.
Culture
The KRNAP route “Journey in Search of Crafts” leads from the Stráž viewpoint via Janatův Mlýn Buřany to the Stromkovická chapel. On this route, access to Janatův Mlýn initially follows the marked cycle path No. 4174 and then continues along paths through meadows and forest.
Inside, Janatův mlýn preserves a complete set of mill machinery, including French millstones dating from 1767 and a fully functional bread oven. Events held throughout the year, during which the mill is usually open to the public, include Dřevosochání and Kovosochání na Háskově, Adventní pečení perníčků, and Dny lidové architektury. Janatův mlýn is usually accessible during Františkovské dřevosochání; guided tours can also be arranged directly with the owner for another date.
Nature
A green-marked trail leads from Buřany on a gentle climb to Mount Hejlov. The loop can be continued along the green and yellow trails in the direction of Františkov before returning to Buřany via the road. At the Kašparka riding station in Buřany, accompanied rides are available for one to three riders.
The surroundings of Buřany include Čertova hora, Hvězda, and Šeřín, each a mountain, as well as Wodospad Kamieńczyka, a waterfall.
Geographical Classification
In the wider regional surroundings of Buřany lies Zamek Chojnik, a castle. The ruins of Spalona Strażnica are also located there, as are Lázně and Valdštejn, both churches.
