Formigal: Winter Sports, Mountain Trails and Serrablo Churches

Formigal is located at the foot of the Aramón Formigal ski resort. From the summit of Tres Hombres, significant peaks of the Central Pyrenees can be seen. Winter

A special way to access the mountain is the “Paseo en telesilla” experience: from Formigal, a chairlift or gondola ride leads to the resort area. No skiing skills are required. The ride reaches an altitude of nearly 2,000 metres and offers views across the entire Tena Valley. Altitude, means of transport and required prior knowledge are different criteria for categorising mountain-related activities.

Snow Experiences

In winter, NieveAventura is available in the Valle de Portalet, offering a family-oriented snow experience. Nature

In Formigal-Panticosa, there are hiking routes in summer that allow the ski resort to be explored in a different way. One specific route is the GR 11 Formigal–Ibones de Anayet. It begins next to the Corral de las Mulas on the A-136 towards Portalet, 3 km from Formigal. It initially climbs gently and runs parallel to the Barranco de Culivillas; at the Formigal ski station, it joins the GR 11. The starting point, distance and route describe it from different perspectives and make it easier to place alongside the other mountain activities.

Culture

Architectural and art history is also present in Formigal. The pre-Romanesque church of Formigal was built in the 11th century and belongs to the group of Serrablo churches. The Iglesia del Salvador de Basarán in Formigal contains a 12th-century baptismal font originating from the parish church of Ruesta. The same church also preserves remains of a 14th-century mural from the Ermita de la Virgen de Basarán. These testimonies bring together different construction periods and connections to their places of origin.
