Batizovce lies on a plain at the southern foothills of the High Tatras. The Batizovský potok stream flows through the municipality between two parallel roads.

Landscape and Trails

The educational trail “Náučný chodník 4 podtatranských obcí” connects Batizovce, Mengusovce, Gerlachov and Štôla. It consists of four information boards. Each board has a seat, a bicycle rack and a litter bin.

The local attractions also include the Batizovská vyhliadka “Tatry ako na dlani” viewpoint. It has a telescope and an information board for visitors travelling through the municipality by car or bicycle. For autumn, the “Výstup na Batizovské pleso” hike is listed as an activity in Batizovce.

Culture and History

The evangelical church in Batizovce is a Neoclassical building constructed between 1786 and 1791. Inside, there is a stone Renaissance baptismal font dating from the 16th to the 17th century. The village is also home to a Baroque château dating from 1756. It stands in a park in the centre of Batizovce.

Another historic site is the building of the former evangelical elementary school, which was built in 1909. It houses the Batizovská izba exhibition. It presents domestic life, tools for processing flax and weaving, food-preparation equipment, historic farming crafts and traditional clothing. The Batizovská izba also contains the oldest preserved object, dating from 1815. The same building also houses the Hasičská izba exhibition.

Archaeological finds from the grounds of the Roman Catholic church in Batizovce are attributed to the developed La Tène culture. Thus, the documented traces of the village range from archaeological finds and ecclesiastical architectural and furnishing elements to the collections in the former school.

Customs and Regional Cuisine

In Batizovce, “chodenie so straškom” on the last day of Carnival is a living tradition. It includes a procession of costumed young men led by the Slameňák, the Brucháč, the Kováči and the Tety. Traditional cuisine also has a recurring local event: in 2026, the competition for traditional Batizovské pirohy was held for the 13th time.
