Rožňava: Hotels and Accommodation
Nature
The Ochtinská aragonitová jaskyňa is a unique natural phenomenon known for the diversity and richness of its aragonite formations. The tour covers 300 metres and takes approximately 30 minutes. A car park is located 300 metres from the cave; from there, a path with a gentle incline leads to the entrance area.
The Gombasecká jaskyňa is located in Slovenský kras National Park. The visit includes a 530-metre guided route and takes approximately 30 minutes. The cave is known for thin, hollow sinter tubes that are formed and preserved there on a scale not found in any other Slovak cave.
Domica and Hungary’s Baradla Cave form a cross-border cave complex extending across Slovakia and Hungary. A tour of Domica may include a boat ride on the underground Styx River. Domica is also an important archaeological site: people lived there in the Neolithic period 5,000 to 6,000 years ago.
Access to the Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa is via an approximately 1-kilometre-long educational trail with an elevation gain of 130 metres and takes about 25 minutes uphill. Approximately 450 metres of the Krásnohorská jaskyňa are accessible to the public. The Krásnohorská jaskyňa is currently closed.
If you would like to book a hotel in Rožňava, choosing accommodation remains a separate part of planning your trip.
Culture
The library of Betliar Manor preserves more than 14,000 volumes from the 15th to the 19th century in six languages. The manor also houses the exhibition “The Living Culture of the Nobility in the 18th and 19th Centuries”. Betliar’s English park covers 57 hectares and has been included in the list of historic gardens of the world.
The Mining Museum in Rožňava is one of three specialised mining museums in Slovakia. The exhibition includes mining workplaces that illustrate working conditions underground and the working methods of miners. A gastronomic zone was part of the accompanying programme at the Gemerský folklórny festival in Rejdová.
