Culture and mining

The Rudňany Mining Educational Trail is 3 km long and has nine stations. The route length and number of stations give the trail a clearly recognizable structure for planning your own visit. The ROCHUS Open-Air Mining Museum displays mining technology, mining locomotives, mine cars and other artefacts from ore mining. The combination of a fixed route length and number of stations makes the educational trail legible as a format in its own right. The open-air museum does not complement it with another route measurement, but with the aforementioned technical and other artefacts from ore mining. The two formats are therefore already distinct in the way they are described.

The exhibition of the Rudňany Mining Archive is divided into three sections.

When planning your own visit, these forms can be considered separately: the educational trail represents a structured route, the museum and archive represent different forms of presentation, while the adit, headframe, church and bell tower are individual structures, each with its own classification.

Adits and monuments

The Rochus Adit is the oldest preserved mining site in Rudňany and has been a national cultural monument since 1973. It served as a main transport, drainage and ventilation route. Its historical dating, monument status and former function constitute three separate aspects for considering this structure.

The headframe of the Mier Shaft is registered as a national cultural monument and is 26 metres high. The Terézia Adit was driven in 1835; the Terézia Adit and the Krížová Adit are connected. The height, year of construction and connection between two named adits provide different factual points of reference for considering the sites.

Church and bell tower

The Church of Saint Clement in Rudňany was originally built from fir wood, later plastered and extended with a masonry annex. Its description therefore encompasses several stages of structural development, which can be identified from the materials and the extension.

The mining bell tower was built next to the church in 1946. The church and bell tower represent different building functions side by side: one building’s history describes changes to the structure, while the other building is connected with mining.

When making your choice, the three details can serve as separate comparison points without mixing them with the historical information. This keeps the practical part of your stay distinct from the classification of the mining and cultural monuments.
