Nature

Vlkolínec is a remarkably well-preserved settlement with 45 buildings and traditional features of a Central European village. Since 1993, Vlkolínec has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located in Ružomberok District. The settlement is also situated in Veľká Fatra National Park.

The Brankovský Waterfall is a protected waterfall 55 metres high within a 27.71-hectare national natural monument. The Jánošíkova kolkáreň National Nature Reserve protects old, natural-like maple, rowan and spruce forests on Malá Smrekovica.

The Hrabovské Waterfalls consist of three waterfalls accessible via an adventure trail with bridges. The circular route to the Hrabovské Waterfalls is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and takes slightly less than an hour.

Mount Sidorovo is located in the vicinity of Ružomberok District. The mountains Tlstá Hora, Ostro and Predný Choč are each located in the surrounding area of Ružomberok District. The Lúčanský Waterfall natural monument lies along the route from Lúčky to Veľký Choč.

Trails

A red-marked trail leads from the saddle to the Vlkolínske lúky and on to Sidorovo; at its summit there is a viewing platform overlooking Vlkolínec.

Liptovský hrad Castle stands on a rocky outcrop above Kalameny in the Chočské vrchy mountains at an altitude of approximately 1,000 metres. Three access routes lead to Liptovský hrad Castle, including a yellow-marked hiking trail from Kalameny and a blue-marked trail from Lúčky. The route from Kalameny to Liptovský hrad Castle is approximately 4 kilometres long from the bus stop and takes about an hour and a half with an ascent of around 400 metres.

Culture

The ruins of Likava are located in the vicinity of Ružomberok District. The accessible lower castle courtyard of Likava Castle offers a partially restricted view of Likavka and Ružomberok. The restored Hunyady Tower of Likava Castle houses an exhibition for visitors on the history of the castle and historical torture instruments.

The UNESCO Vlkolínec House presents an exhibition about Father Horský, as well as works by painters, photographers and folk artists. Orava Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings of Ružomberok District.

The Liptov Museum preserves a representative collection of guild artefacts from four important craft centres in the Liptov region: Ružomberok, Nemecká (now Partizánska Ľupča), Liptovský Mikuláš and Hybe. The exhibition of sacred art at the Liptov Museum includes an altar of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, transferred from the church in Ludrová.

At the Museum of Handmade Paper Production in Ludrová, visitors can learn about traditional paper production and make paper themselves. The museum displays a Hollander beater, a wooden vat, a press, moulds and a drying device used in paper production.

Water and Recreation

The Gothal Water World in Liptovská Osada includes a 25-metre-long swimming pool with six lanes, as well as a relaxation pool with massage jets. The Bešeňová Thermal Park is located in the surroundings of Ružomberok District.

Aqua-Vital Park Lúčky is open year-round and includes thermal pools with mineral water, an adventure pool with various water attractions, a sauna world and an indoor mineral water pool.
