Liptovske Sliace – Teplica Spring, Travertine and Mountain Surroundings

A wintertime peculiarity of Liptovské Sliače can be found at the Teplica Spring: it maintains a constant temperature of 16 °C, which is why the stream flowing from it does not freeze in winter. The spring is also called Čertovica and is a mofette spring from which gases escape. Its travertine mound resembles a volcano with a crater in shape. The Sliačske travertíny nature reserve also includes a small marsh with characteristic flora and fauna.

Nature

The Sliačske travertíny nature reserve can be reached from Vyšný Sliač via a narrow asphalt road. A specific hiking route begins at the “Lipt.Sliače,Vyšný Sliač,garáž” bus stop: from there, a blue-marked hiking trail leads to the nature reserve and the Teplica Spring. This connects the distinctive spring area, the travertine, and the protected landscape in a single route description.

Mountains and Surroundings

Several named mountains lie in the vicinity of Liptovské Sliače. These include Magura Lipče and Ostro. Mount Beran and Mount Miková are located in the immediate vicinity. The different designations of spatial proximity remain clearly distinguished: Beran and Miková are assigned to the immediate vicinity, while Magura Lipče and Ostro are assigned to the surrounding area.

Culture

Local culture includes the Sliačanka folklore ensemble and the Sliačanček children's group. Both preserve local folk traditions, songs, and dances and present them at folklore festivals at home and abroad. A church in Liptovské Sliače also preserves several original architectural details from the Middle Ages. These include windows, a vault, portals, and grilles.

Further culture-related destinations are located around the village. Likava Ruins are situated in the vicinity of Liptovské Sliače, while Orava Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings. Besenova Thermal Park is also in the vicinity. In this way, historic buildings and a named thermal destination are connected within the immediate and wider surroundings, without equating their spatial relationships.

Events

The Liptovské dni matky folklore festival took place for the 15th time in 2026 at the Pažite Amphitheatre in Liptovské Sliače. The Beh okolo Sliačov cross-country race has a sporting focus and was held in Liptovské Sliače in 2026 for the 51st time. Both events are connected with the village itself, but differ in their focus: the festival represents folklore, while the race represents cross-country running.

Another named route is the 68 km-long, blue-marked Vlkolínec–Pribylina MTB route, which runs along field roads through Liptovské Sliače toward Partizánska Ľupča. The route is therefore clearly described both by its markings and by its length and the places named.
