Liptovske Revuce: Accommodation and Alpine Trails

A distinctive winter route leads from Liptovské Revúce to Krížna. The route from Liptovské Revúce (Výšné) is 15 km long, takes six hours and is classified as a moderate alpine hike as well as a ski touring route. For ski touring, it is designated from 15 December to 30 April; avalanche safety equipment is specified as necessary equipment.

Winter and Alpine Trails

Another trail connects several characteristic points in the surrounding area: The Čierny Kameň educational trail begins in Stredná in Liptovské Revúce and ends in Vyšná near Konštrukta. It leads through the NPR Čierny kameň nature reserve and over the Ploská saddle. The educational trail is 9.5 km long, takes approximately five hours and includes eight information boards or stations. It is self-guided, can be hiked in both directions and is suitable as a loop trail in summer and winter. It can be reached from the SAD bus stop Liptovské Revúce, Stredná–požiarna zbrojnica.

From Ploská, a trail leads to Chata pod Borišovom. The mountain hut is operated year-round and is located at a junction of several marked hiking trails. The Ferrata Dve veže was also opened in Záhorovo in Liptovské Revúce, a secured route through challenging mountain terrain with fixed safety cables and iron steps. The traditional ascent of Borišov takes place every year on 30 December.

Nature

The natural area includes the Prielom Teplého potoka in the Teplá Valley. The gorge section is approximately 180 metres long and up to 20 metres deep. It features karst relief, travertine and erosional forms created by the river; the protected area also includes the 2.4-metre-high lower waterfall of the Teplý potok. The Prielom Teplého potoka has been protected as a natural monument since 1984 and lies within the cadastral area of Liptovské Revúce. It can be reached from the Teplé forestry lodge via a yellow-marked hiking trail.

Borišov is a 450-hectare state nature reserve. It protects communities in up to four forest vegetation zones. The area's landscape structure is also evident in the Revúcka Valley: it runs from north to south and forms the boundary between the Low Tatras and the Greater Fatra.

The Revúca River rises below Krížna, flows through the Revúcka Valley and empties into the Váh in Ružomberok.

Culture and Tradition

Vyšná Revúca is the oldest part of the municipality and preserves its best-maintained folk architecture. This includes wooden houses dating from 1800–1870 and an 18th-century chapel. A characteristic embroidery tradition of Liptovské Revúce is the sewn lace, or cutwork embroidery, known as “garatová ruža”. The village's folk culture, shaped by shepherding, is known as Ovenálie and has remained almost unchanged to this day.

Historical buildings include the Church of the Purification of the Virgin Mary (“Kostol Očisťovania Panny Márie”). It was built in 1819 in the Baroque Classicist style on the site of an older wooden church dating from 1694. Its interior features a wall painting from 1912–1913 by Jozef Hanula and a Neoclassical high altar dating from around 1820.

Local Life

Revúcke halušky is a 28-year-old local tradition. It includes craft markets, folklore, music, regional food and children's activities. It also features a competition for cooking and eating bryndza halušky.
