Liptovska Osada between nature, wellness and history

Liptovská Osada is located in a valley between two national parks, including Veľká Fatra National Park. Several hikes start here. This means that, alongside the historic character of the village, the focus is also on trails through a landscape whose distinctive landmarks are directly associated with Liptovská Osada.

Nature

The Žiar Viewpoint Trail leads from the centre of Liptovská Osada to the lower part of the Žiar mountain rock massif. The viewpoints on Žiar offer views of Liptovská Osada. Another trail also starts in the village: a green-marked hiking trail leads from Liptovská Osada to Malý Zvolen mountain.

Wellness

Gothal Water World includes a relaxation pool, a children’s pool and a 25-metre swimming pool. In addition, the Gothal wellness area has three saunas, a relaxation room and a cold-water pool.

Culture

The “Church of St John the Baptist” was built in 1762 on the site of an earlier wooden church. The church contains paintings by Vladimír Droppa. Three bells hang in the tower; the oldest dates from the 17th century and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. A monument dedicated to the Slovak National Uprising also stands in a small park on Lúžňanská Street.

The history of the village’s origins also goes back a long way. Liptovská Osada developed from a Benedictine hermitage that was established around the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries and is mentioned as Gothal or “božie domčeky”. Liptovská Osada was also home to a former Hussite church that was originally the only Hussite church in Slovakia. The historical designation and former status are part of the village’s traditional history.

The CykloKorytnička is part of the local connection between history and activity. It is a cycle path along the route of a former narrow-gauge forest railway and crosses an old railway bridge on its way to Liptovská Osada. At the southern end of Liptovská Osada, Jánošíkova koliba offers specialities of Liptov cuisine.
