Lisková – Nature, Trails and Culture | Ski Hotel

The first documented settlement of the Lengyel culture in the Liptov region was discovered in Liskovská jaskyňa. Lisková lies on the Žilina–Košice railway line.

Nature

Liskovská jaskyňa is a national natural monument. Only the entrance is accessible to visitors. The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of Mary is located above the cave; from there, there are views of the Low and Western Tatras.

Below Mount Mních lies Skalná päsť, a six-metre-high natural monument. The Mohylky Nature Reserve contains fossils of marine bivalves, nummulites and corals that are approximately 50 million years old.

Trails

A yellow-marked hiking trail begins in Lisková and leads to the trail junction below Smrekov. From this junction, marked trails continue to Sedlo Spuštiak saddle in the Choč National Nature Reserve and then towards Veľký Choč.

A red-marked cycling trail also runs through Lisková. It leads westwards to Ružomberok or eastwards to Liptovská Teplá.

The local offerings also include the Lisková climbing sector, with approximately 23 routes of varying difficulty. Rock climbing at the climbing sector has been officially permitted since 1 December 2023.

Culture

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Lisková was consecrated in 1936. Its free-standing Baroque tower comes from an older church that was demolished in 1934 because of its poor structural condition.

A commemorative plaque is located on the birthplace of Vavro Šrobár; it was installed in 1937 on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The birthplace is in the centre of Lisková, on Vavra Šrobára Street next to the main road.

The Stations of the Cross in Lisková comprise 14 stations and end at a small church dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary. A small chapel stands at the beginning of the Stations of the Cross.
