Ostrá Lúka: Accommodation between a Gothic Church and Rural Heritage

The Gothic parish church Kostol Zjavenia Pána in Ostrá Lúka is dated to the end of the 13th century. Kaštieľ Ostrolúckych served as the ancestral residence of the Ostrolúcky noble family. Culture

The historic character is also reflected in several archaeological and architectural remains. Hrad Peťuša is an archaeological site in the cadastral territory of Ostrá Lúka and dates from the 14th to the 15th century. Hradisko Gunda is also located in this cadastral territory and has ramparts whose date has not been determined more precisely; its connection with an older Bronze Age find remains unclear. Majer Gunda preserves the ruins of Renaissance architecture built on the site of a medieval royal farmstead. The restored grounds of an old church are marked by its floor plan, the surrounding walls and a new bell tower.

Múzeum vidieka presents rural life in Slovakia in the 19th and 20th centuries. Exhibits include original furniture, agricultural equipment, folk costumes, a rural kitchen and a unique depiction of a village school. The museum also houses the largest collection on shepherding culture in Slovakia. Its traditional activities include baking bread and cakes in a clay oven, as well as various folk concerts. Múzeum vidieka also hosted a public baking and tasting event for Ostrolúcka haruľa, during which the preparation of the dough and the baking process were demonstrated in practice.

Landscape

From the entrance to Ostrá Lúka, the surrounding area offers views of the Boky state nature reserve, the Žiarska Valley, the Zvolen Basin, the Kremnica Mountains, the Low Tatras, Poľana and the strip of the Štiavnica Mountains. These different landscape settings thus range from protected natural areas and valleys to several mountain ranges and basin landscapes.

Trails

A specific route through the surrounding area is provided by the 7th stage of the Barborská cesta. It leads from Bacúrov along an asphalt road to Ostrá Lúka, passing the Ostrolúcky family crypt, Kaštieľ Ostrolúckych and Albergo Ostrá Lúka. The stage then continues along a field path and a forest path. The stage is considered moderately difficult to difficult.

Events

Recurring events are also part of the cultural setting of the village. The annual event “Svetelný signál” included, among other sites in the Banská Bystrica Region, Peťuša Castle. Kultúrna Jar Adely Ostrolúckej is a traditional cultural event in Ostrá Lúka; its 12th edition took place there on 21 May 2022.
