Museo Civico “Vittorino Cazzetta”

The Museo Civico “Vittorino Cazzetta” displays the original skeleton of the Mondeval Man in an air-conditioned floor display case. An audio guide and special lighting explain the burial and its associated artefacts. The most important exhibits include a complete Mesolithic burial with grave goods from Mondeval de Sora, as well as a cast of the surface of a boulder from Monte Pelmetto bearing dinosaur footprints. Throughout the year, visitors can attend educational workshops supervised by experienced specialists at the Museo Civico.

Ladin settlement form and living culture

The Unione dei Ladini di Selva supports the preservation of the local Ladin costume and the revival of traditional Ladin dances through the Gruppo Folk de i Ladign de Selva and its affiliated Gruppo Minifolk. Together with Toffol, the old hamlet of L’Andria has preserved its original appearance. L’Andria and Toffol belong to the Ladin settlement form known as the “Vila”. The Ladin settlement form known as the “Vila” refers to a village centre surrounded by fields and meadows.

Churches and historical evidence

The Chiesa di Santa Fosca has a 15th-century fresco of Saint Christopher on its main façade, as well as a painted image of Saint Fosca from the 17th century. A church dedicated to Saint Lawrence has been documented in Selva di Cadore since 1234. A late-15th-century winged altarpiece is housed in an altar reredos from the mid-17th century. There is also an 18th-century tabernacle-shaped sacrament house.

Winter activities in the Ski Civetta ski area

Selva di Cadore is part of the Ski Civetta ski area. Ski Civetta comprises 80 kilometres of slopes and a cross-country skiing centre with four trails of varying difficulty. When planning a winter day, both alpine skiing and cross-country skiing are therefore documented options available in the area.

Trails to Forcella Forada

The hike to Forcella Forada begins at a car park at the third hairpin bend on Strada 251, on the route from Pescul towards Passo Staulanza. The trail to Forcella Forada passes through a sunny forest with rhododendrons and other rare flowers. At Forcella Forada, groups of chamois can be observed with the naked eye grazing among the rocks.

The trail to the archaeological site of Mondeval begins in Santa Fosca and continues via L’Andria and Toffol towards Malga Pien de Vacia. The ascent to Passo Giau begins a few metres outside Selva di Cadore. The Sentiero Rif. Città di Fiume – Malga Prendera trail can be explored on foot, with snowshoes or while ski touring.

Along the trail through the Vila di L’Andria, a restored and still functioning mill stands on the Loschiesuoi mountain stream. Casa delle Guide offers adults group hikes and multi-day trekking tours.
