Nature and trails on Monte Avena

In summer, Monte Avena is used for walks through extensive pastureland. It is also used by people interested in free flight. Thus, the same mountain brings together peaceful paths through the landscape and a specific interest in making use of the mountain air, without this implying any particular suitability or specific offering.

Some of the routes in the municipal area of Pedavena are suitable for mountain biking as well as hiking. Most routes can be used all year round. They run mainly within the municipal area and are designed as circular routes, with the starting point and destination being the same. The Anello del Monte Avena is marked with white and blue directional arrows bearing its name. For your planning, this means that you can distinguish between hiking routes and individual paths with additional suitability for mountain biking, and expect circular routes to have a shared starting and finishing point.

A clearly defined variant is Magna e Cammina. The 7-kilometre walking route leads through the forests and mountain pastures of Monte Avena. Along the route, there are four stations for tasting local specialities.

Pian d’Avena and the view of the Vette Feltrine

In Pian d’Avena in Pedavena, at the foot of the Vette Feltrine, there is the park’s information and refreshment point. Picnic tables and barbecue fire pits are available there. There are also toilets and information material about the park. This combination makes the place a practical stop during a day in nature, without implying any particular length of stay or special accessibility.

Historic sites and archaeological traces

Villa Pasole was built on the ruins of an ancient castle. It was also the seat of the Accademia degli Erranti, a circle of intellectuals and artists.

Above Facen, on Monte Avena at an altitude of 929 metres, stands the Santuario dei Santi Tiburzio e Susanna. From Facen, the sanctuary can be reached via a steep path. The Santuario has very ancient origins and was probably built on the ruins of an ancient watchtower. When planning a visit, you should therefore take into account both the altitude and the explicitly steep path between Facen and the sanctuary.

At the archaeological site on Monte Avena, a small number of artefacts from the Middle Paleolithic, the Mousterian, were found. These artefacts were made by Neanderthals around 60,000 years ago.

The local culture and traditions also include the Festa di Fonte di Santa Susanna on 11 August. During this event, members of the community from Facen walk to the sanctuary. The festival therefore establishes a direct connection between Facen, the sanctuary and the communal walk.

Fabbrica, tastings and local events

Tours of the Fabbrica in Pedavena are possible throughout the year by prior reservation. A guided tour includes the brewhouse and the historical museum. Old tools, machines and pieces of equipment are shown. The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes. Those who include this visit in their stay will therefore gain a time-limited insight into the Fabbrica’s rooms, historical objects and technical equipment.

The Mercatini nel Parco Birreria Pedavena give visitors the opportunity to discover and buy locally produced and handcrafted products.

The Festa dell’Orzo took place in Pedavena on 15 and 16 July 2023 and included events, music, food and beer. This date belongs to a past event period and should not be equated with a current date when placing Pedavena in a chronological context.
