Lake and landscape history

Masarè overlooks the far end of Lago di Alleghe. From Masarè, the landslide scar of the major landslide is visible.

Parco 11 gennaio 1771 commemorates the landslide of Monte Piz, which blocked the course of the Torrente Cordevole in 1771 and led to the formation of Lago di Alleghe. Masarè was founded after the formation of Lago di Alleghe. Most of the village lies on the deposits of the 1771 landslide. Here, the lake, watercourse and settlement therefore come together in a history that began in 1771. When viewing the landscape, the visible landslide scar directs the gaze both towards the lake and towards the landslide area.

Culture and trails in Masarè

Masarè is home to the 19th-century Villa Paganini Ruspoli. The “Alleghe tra arte e natura” route leads to Masarè and runs along Via dei Pini to Parco 11 gennaio 1771. In the wider regional surroundings of Masarè, you will also find Resti del Castello Sant'Uberto, a ruin. The villa dates from the 19th century, while the park commemorates the 1771 landslide. For those interested in culture, a historic building, a route along Via dei Pini and a memorial site are thus connected thematically.

Waterfall and lakeside walk

Hiking trails from Masarè lead to Cascata di Ru de Col Aut. Cascata di Ru de Col Aut has two successive cascades. In Masarè, you can also walk along the shore of Lago di Alleghe, away from the traffic on the main road. Your planning options therefore include a hiking destination with two cascades and a separate walk along the lakeshore. When choosing between the two activities, you can plan the waterfall or the lakeshore as a separate destination.

Cycling routes with different characteristics

The Sottoguda–Masarè cycle path runs partly on unpaved and partly on paved surfaces. This cycle path is of medium difficulty and also offers several variants. The mountain bike tour between Sottoguda and Masarè is 30 kilometres long. When planning, you can assess the cycle path according to its surface, difficulty and variants, while the fixed distance of 30 kilometres determines the scope of the mountain bike tour. If you give weight to the surface when choosing a route, the unpaved and paved sections are the key factors for the cycle path.
