Mountain Landscape and Distinctive Trails

The Passo della Mauria lies entirely within the territory of Lorenzago di Cadore. Monte Mauria features funnel-shaped sinkholes carved out by water. The Strada Statale 52 connects Cadore with Carnia via the Passo della Mauria. As a result, both a defining mountain pass and a distinctive road connection are central features of the landscape around Lorenzago di Cadore.

The CAI Trail 336, classified as a hiking trail, begins at Castello di Mirabello in Lorenzago di Cadore. The trail is 9 kilometres long in total and reaches a maximum elevation of 1,969 metres. The Parco dei Sogni is a panoramic road approximately one kilometre long. The Big Bench #303 offers a view of Monte Cridola.

Winter Trails and Alpine Activities

The ascent to Ricovero Miaron is part of the “Cadore Regno delle Ciaspe” loop trail. The ascent can be undertaken with snowshoes or skis. Falesia a Croera has several climbing routes for experienced climbers. The two activities cater to different forms of movement in the mountains: Ricovero Miaron represents a winter tour, while Falesia a Croera offers climbing routes for experienced climbers.

Culture, Art and Spirituality

The Chiesa della Madonna della Difesa is one of four votive churches in Cadore dedicated to the Madonna della Difesa. The Chiesa della Madonna della Difesa was built after the plague of 1511–1512, which killed approximately one third of the population. Its origins are therefore closely linked to a specific historical event.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Ermagora e Fortunato has a step-free side entrance for people with disabilities. The Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Ermagora e Fortunato also houses a painting by Cesare Vercello depicting Saint Anthony. Several frescoes by Antonio Schiavi are also located in the Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Ermagora e Fortunato.

The Museo dei Papi displays photographs from special official and private moments in the life of Karol Wojtyla, as well as valuable objects that belonged to him. Since 2007, a room in the Museo dei Papi has been dedicated to the presence of Pope Benedict XVI. The Santuario all'aperto di San Giovanni Paolo II Papa hosts religious events, pilgrimages and other moments of spirituality.

The Sentiero dei Papi leads to the sanctuary. The trail passes through places where Giovanni Paolo II and Benedetto XVI stayed and spent moments in prayer. Castello di Mirabello dates from 1890 and was built as a summer residence for the Lombard industrialist and senator of the Kingdom Giovanni Facheris. Castello di Mirabello is not open to visitors; access is reserved for guests.
