Castel Vigna and the Houses of Salobbi

Castel Vigna was built at the beginning of the 17th century by Giovanni Cipriano Thun. Below Maso Vigna lie the red ruins of Castel Vigna, partially hidden by the forest. Salobbi has old, imposing houses built from very large blocks of stone. Castel Vigna thus appears both as a historic building and as a destination on the municipal route. Maso Vigna is the reference point for the location of the red ruins and is reached by this route as a large building.

The Church of Sant’Egidio in Salobbi

The village is home to the branch church Chiesa dei Santi Andrea ed Egidio. The Church of Sant’Egidio in Salobbi was mentioned in 1537 under the name Chapel of Saint Andrew the Apostle. On 7 July 1515, Bishop Michele Jorba, the vicar of the Bishop of Trento Bernardo Cles, consecrated an altar dedicated to Saint Giles in the Chapel of Sant’Egidio in Salobbi. Historically, the Church of Sant’Egidio in Salobbi belonged to the branch churches dependent on San Floriano.

The Municipal Route via Salobbi

A municipal route from Brez to Maso Forcola passes through Salobbi and continues to Castel Vigna. The route passes by the large farmstead of Maso Forcola before reaching the houses of Salobbi. The municipal route also reaches the large building of Maso Vigna.

Paths from Salobbi to Palù Longa and Pra del Signor

From Salobbi, access to Palù Longa leads via the Grola–Roncola forest road. The SAT trail O114 leads from Salobbi to Pra del Signor and is 10,820 metres long. The two destinations differ in their connection: Palù Longa is reached via the Grola–Roncola forest road, while Pra del Signor is reached via SAT trail O114. Salobbi remains the starting point for both routes, while the destination and route designation change. These route connections can be considered separately when planning the day. The length of 10,820 metres can be directly taken into account for the SAT trail as the extent of the described trail section.

Natural Features near Palù Longa and around Salobbi

Near Palù Longa stands a monumental larch estimated to be 500 to 600 years old, with a circumference of 5 metres. For the larch, the age range of 500 to 600 years is an estimate, not an exact date. In the meadows around Salobbi, the “Spadone” pear variety used to predominate.

Getting to Salobbi

The access road to Salobbi runs along a paved road that can be driven on by car.
