Campitello Die Fassa: Skiing on Col Rodella and Hiking from Val Duron

If you would like to combine winter sports with varied trails, scenery and Ladin culture during your skiing holiday, Campitello di Fassa offers several clearly distinct points of interest. The main winter focus is Col Rodella and the Belvedere–Col Rodella ski area. These are complemented by Val Duron, the Ischia district, routes suitable for families, as well as historic squares and events.

Skiing on Col Rodella

The cable car from Campitello ascends to Col Rodella at an altitude of 2,480 metres. The Belvedere–Col Rodella ski area can be accessed via lifts in the town centres of Canazei and Campitello.

Val Duron between Meadows and Hiking Trails

Campitello di Fassa lies at the entrance to Val Duron. The Rio Duron, which flows through the town, gave the valley its name. In Val Duron, the landscape opens out into extensive meadows and flower-filled areas dotted with mountain huts. The valley is traversed by the Rio Duron. The first section from Campitello is closed to motorised traffic.

From May to October, a minibus taxi service connects Strèda de Salin in Campitello with Rifugio Micheluzzi in Val Duron. Val Duron is also an ideal starting point for hikes towards Passo Duron.

Hiking Trails with Different Levels of Difficulty

The Friedrich August Trail was inaugurated on 30 July 1911 and dedicated to King Frederick Augustus III of Saxony. A section of this trail leading to Rifugio Sandro Pertini is suitable for families with children. It can be walked with a baby carrier or a backpack child carrier, but not with a pushchair. For families with small children, this distinction is relevant when choosing equipment: a baby carrier or backpack child carrier is suitable, but a pushchair is not.

Trail no. 557 connects Sella Pass via Sela Rodela with the former Seiser Alm mountain hut.

Ischia: Climbing and Off-Piste Sports

The modern ADEL sport climbing centre is located in the Ischia district, near the Col Rodella cable-car station. It is certified to host international competitions.

Centro sportivo Ischia offers facilities and equipment for tennis, football, five-a-side football, beach volleyball, basketball, bocce, roller skating and mini golf. The Ischia area also includes an adventure park among the trees, with a zip line crossing over the Avisio River.

Historic Places and Events

L Stont – Il Casino di Bersaglio is a historic shooting range in Campitello di Fassa. It was built in 1905 and operated until the outbreak of the First World War. The “L carnascèr” carnival is one of the major events in Campitello di Fassa.

Pian, a district of Campitello di Fassa, is a collection of historic hay barns. At the same time, Pian is an old Ladin shepherd settlement and is now protected for environmental and urban-planning reasons.
