Trails for summer and winter

A circular trail suitable for pushchairs runs around Lago Smeraldo. If you would like to visit Rio Sass Canyon, visits take place daily, including public holidays; reservations must be made in advance. In the wider surrounding area, a winter route across the Pradiei meadows partly follows the course of the Ciaspolada snowshoe race. For your planning, a visit to Rio Sass Canyon, the Passeggiata al burrone and the circular trail around Lago Smeraldo can be considered separately.

The Ciaspolada was moved from Tret to the Pradiei meadows between Fondo and Romeno in the early 1990s. Two editions of the Ciaspolada took place exclusively in the town of Fondo. A snowshoe race is held using snowshoes that make walking on snow-covered ground easier.

Cycling in Alta Val di Non

The marked Alta Val di Non cycle route is an approximately 40-kilometre circular course that includes Fondo and runs mostly flat along its western side. A circular route returns to its starting point. A guided e-bike tour starts in Fondo and follows the Alta Val di Non cycle route through forests, meadows and villages.

Landscape above Lago Smeraldo

In the wider surrounding area above Lago Smeraldo, a botanical garden showcases alpine flora in its natural environment. Alpine flora refers to plants of the alpine habitat.

Historic centre and water technology

Fondo's historic centre features painted façades dating from the 14th to the 16th century. The Church of Santa Lucia in Fondo contains a rich fresco cycle dating from 1380 to 1399. Several frescoes dedicated to Saint James of Compostela can be viewed in Fondo. A fresco cycle is a series of wall paintings.

The Museo La Casa dell'Acqua includes interactive exhibition stations: a scale model, a 4K film, stop-motion videos and a panel explaining how a hydroelectric power plant works. A guided tour of the Museo La Casa dell'Acqua also includes a visit to Mulino Bertagnolli. At Mulino Bertagnolli, the water from the water channel continues to drive the wheel that once powered the millstones. Fondo's astronomical water clock for measuring time consists of two interconnected mechanisms powered by water.

Malga di Fondo produces mountain cheese, butter, yoghurt and ricotta. During its operating months, Malga di Fondo offers lunch and dinner by prior reservation.
