Faedo: Trails, Mining History and Wine

On the left bank of the Adige, where Faedo is located, clearings alternate with pine, fir, larch and beech forests. The hillside combines open areas with several types of woodland, making the transition between clearing and forest immediately visible.

Faedo–Zise–Roccolo del Sauch hiking trail via Passo della Croccola along the western slope of Monte Pincaldo, with access to the Ferrata di Cadino

After Passo della Croccola, the Faedo–Zise–Roccolo del Sauch hiking trail reaches the village of Zise along the western slope of Monte Pincaldo. Faedo, Passo della Croccola, the western slope of Monte Pincaldo and Zise serve as specific reference points for planning the route.

The Faedo–Zise–Roccolo del Sauch trail also recommends a short detour to the Roccolo del Sauch Ornithological Observatory.

The access trail to the Ferrata di Cadino begins in Cadino, behind the small chapel near Garnì La Ferrata.

Traces of former silver mining on the Sentiero Minerario Masen-Faedo, with ancient horizontal mine tunnels

Silver was once mined in the former mining area along the Sentiero Minerario Masen-Faedo; today, the area is covered by dense woodland. The former silver mining activity thus contrasts with a densely forested landscape today.

The Sentiero Minerario Masen-Faedo passes several ancient, horizontally running mine tunnels. These tunnels are called “Canope”. Their horizontal alignment is a specific feature of the mining traces along the trail.

Castel Monreale is also known as Konigsberg and was rebuilt in 1243 on the ridge between Faedo and San Michele all'Adige. Castello di Monreale is located on a panoramic ridge just north of Faedo.

The Gothic-Romanesque Chiesetta di Sant’Agata marks the entrance to Faedo’s historic centre.
