Romeno: Cycling Paths, Churches and Frescoes
Plateau, Pine Forests and Churches
Romeno lies on a sunny plateau surrounded by pine forests. Walking trails run through the pine forests. On the edge of the municipal area stands the Chiesa dei SS. Bartolomeo e Tommaso. From this church, you can see the Brenta Dolomites. The walking trails are therefore located in the forests, while the church on the edge of the municipal area opens up views of the Dolomites.
The Alta Val di Non Cycling Circuit
The 25-km Alta Val di Non cycling circuit connects Malgolo, Romeno, Salter, Cavareno, Sarnonico, Ronzone, Malosco and Fondo. The circuit then returns to Romeno through the meadows of Pradiei. For planning purposes, the 25 kilometres, the sequence of towns and the return route through the meadows of Pradiei can be considered separately.
Mountain Biking between Don and Amblar
The Alta Val di Non cycling network also includes a 7-km unpaved mountain-bike trail between Don and Amblar. The trail has a total elevation gain of 450 metres. For personal route planning on this section, the surface and elevation gain are also relevant alongside the distance. The two cycling options therefore differ in length and trail type.
A Distinctive Overpass between Malgolo and Romeno
A distinctive overpass crosses the SS 43DIR between Malgolo and Romeno. Its construction in wood and metal is worth seeing. Wood and metal define the appearance of the overpass.
Churches and Frescoes in Romeno
The Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Romeno is part of the Cammino Jacopeo d'Anaunia. This name refers to a network of ancient paths and churches associated with pilgrimages.
Sant'Antonio Abate has fresco cycles inside and outside depicting stories from the life of Saint Anthony the Great. The Church of San Bartolomeo contains some of the oldest frescoes in Trentino. They are in the Romanesque style and have a Byzantine character.
The parish church of Romeno houses the Pala dell'Assunta. The neoclassical work was created by Giambattista Lampi and has very ancient origins. Those interested in culture can therefore find frescoes both in churches and on numerous houses in Romeno.
Frescoes on Houses and a Monument
Frescoes by the famous Mattia Lampi, dating from 1720, are still visible today on numerous elegant houses in Romeno. Romeno is also home to a monument dedicated to the local-born Giambattista Lampi, who lived from 1751 to 1830.
A Dairy with a History
The Caseificio Sociale Alta Val di Non in Romeno and Cavareno was established in 1891 as a cooperative dairy. Alternating management was part of its original organisation.
Fiera di San Bartolomeo e Mostra Bovina
The Fiera di San Bartolomeo e Mostra Bovina, held in Romeno on 24 August 2024, featured an old-fashioned street fair and a cattle exhibition in Parco di Alice.
