Landscape Along the Noce and in Santa Giustina

Taio lies among orchards on a broad terrace opposite a deep gorge carved by the Noce River. Beneath Taio, fissures in the rock form cool pools, which are among the area's distinctive natural features. A gorge is a deeply incised area of terrain. The Sentiero dell’Eremo di Santa Giustina runs between the districts of Taio and Dermulo in the municipality of Predaia. The Sentiero dell’Eremo di Santa Giustina passes through the deep Santa Giustina Gorge, which is recognised as a Site of Community Importance (SCI).

Churches and Roman Heritage

The Chiesa della Madonna del Rosario in Taio has a Romanesque portal dating from the 13th century. A Romanesque portal is a church entrance designed in Romanesque forms. On the western façade of the Chiesa della Madonna del Rosario in Taio, fragments of 14th-century frescoes depicting the Madonna and Child, Saint Martin with the Beggar, and the head of a saint have been preserved. The Church of Beata Vergine Maria in Taio dates from the 12th century. Archaeological finds of graves, objects and coins indicate that Taio was once a Roman settlement.

Architecture and Crafts in Taio

With its numerous rural and grand country houses, large arcades and wooden bridges, Taio features a typical architectural style of the 16th and 17th centuries. The Museo delle antiche attrezzature in Taio's fire station presents the history and identity of Predaia's volunteer fire brigade through historic firefighting equipment. The Museo delle fruste in Taio is a reconstruction of a workshop for making whip handles. Through tools as well as videos, postcards and photographs, the Museo delle fruste illustrates the history of whip-handle production and, more generally, life in earlier times. The manufacture of whip handles is a craft tradition typical of Taio that began in 1830.

Apple Cultivation and Hiking in the Lower Val di Non

The Mondo Melinda visitor centre is located in the Segno district within the Taio area. Mondo Melinda offers guided tours and workshops with fruit tastings about apple cultivation. The 7th stage of the Cammino Jacopeo d'Anaunia is a medium-length hike with little elevation gain and landscapes in the lower Val di Non.
