Tiers am Rosengarten: The Tschamin Valley between the Schlern and Rosengarten mountains
Tiers am Rosengarten lies at the foot of the Rosengarten massif. The Tschamin Valley lies between the Schlern and Rosengarten massifs. Numerous hiking trails and alpine routes lead from Tiers to the Rosengarten massif. To reach the higher elevations, the Cabrio cable car takes visitors from Tiers to the Carezza Dolomites ski and hiking area in seven minutes. The Cabrio cable car also connects Tiers am Rosengarten with the mountain world of the Rosengarten.
Hiking trails with different starting points
The “Forest & Water” nature trail is a circular hiking trail that starts and ends at the valley station of the Tiers cable car. The “Forest & Water” nature trail takes families and children to 20 stations. The hike to the Grasleitenhütte starts at the roundabout in Weißlahnbad. The ascent leads to the Grasleitenhütte at an altitude of 2,165 m. The hike “Into the Tschamin Valley to the Rechten Leger” starts at the Steger Säge sawmill at the entrance to the Tschamin Valley. The Steger Säge is now a rare example of a water-powered Venetian sawmill. The Rechten Leger is a particularly beautiful viewpoint and resting place.
When planning a day in Tiers, hiking starting points, the seven-minute ride on the Cabrio cable car and the CallBus stops can be considered separately. The tours do not all start in the same place: The valley station, the roundabout in Weißlahnbad and the Steger Säge are the respective starting points. At the Grasleitenhütte, the destination altitude of 2,165 m is a planning factor for the ascent and the entire mountain hike there.
Biotope, viewpoints and South Tyrolean refreshments
A guided hike across the TaltbĂĽhl leads to the protected Totmoos biotope. The Wuhnleger is a pond in Tiers am Rosengarten and a viewpoint for watching the alpenglow on the Rosengarten. During the sunset hike to the Wuhnleger, a small, typical South Tyrolean Marende snack is offered. Along the hiking trails in Tiers, family-run alpine huts invite visitors to stop for refreshments and serve South Tyrolean specialities.
Chapels and historic trails
The small Chapel of St. Zyprian is a late Romanesque building with a barrel vault, semicircular apse and low tower. The Chapel of St. Zyprian features exterior frescoes from the 17th century depicting the miraculous rescue of the Platzlinderwiese. Zyprian can only be viewed from the outside; the interior is not accessible. The Historical Tour starts at the Chapel of St. Zyprian and passes eleven historically interesting stations in Tiers. The Chapel of St. Sebastian dates back to a vow made about 400 years ago, when the plague reached Tiers. A meditation trail leads from the village centre of Tiers to the Chapel of St. Sebastian. Tiers am Rosengarten played an important role in the early development of South Tyrol’s alpine regions.
The Tiers CallBus has more than 20 stops and connects the village centre with St. Zyprian, WeiĂźlahnbad and OberstraĂźe, among other places.
